Fraxel laser technology is one of the most advanced forms of laster treatment currently on the market. Fraxel laser technology is designed to remove age spots, minimize the appearance of pores and simulate the body’s own cell regeneration process to help stimulate collagen in the skin and speed up the growth of healthy new layers of skin.

What is Fraxel?

Fraxel is a specifically designed type of laser therapy with the goal of speeding up the body’s natural growth of new skin. Fraxel laser technology does not remove the outer, dead layers off skin but instead speeds up the growth of new, healthy skin in the deeper layers of the epidermis, which will cause the body to shed the outer most damaged layers. There are three types of Fraxel treatments: Fraxel re:fine, Fraxel re:store, and Fraxel re:pair. Fraxel re:fine aims to clear up discoloration and remove uneven pigments in the skin, causing age spots and a blotchy complexion. Fraxel re:store is meant to treat scarring and skin problems that are rooted in the deeper layers of the skin. Fraxel re:store is a great option for minimizing the appearance of acne scars. Fraxel re:pair is the most recently developed option in the Fraxel line, developed in 2008. Fraxel re:pair uses deep fractional dermal ablation to reach the most base layers of the epidermis and repair serious scars and birthmarks, such as atrophic scaring which occurs at the very root level of the skin.

How does it work?

Fraxel is aptly named as it relies upon fractional therapy, meaning tiny, controlled areas of the skin are treated as opposed to the entirety of the skin cells which greatly increases recover time. Fraxel laser therapy uses laser to create thousands of thin, deep columns of water absorption deep beneath your skin allowing new skin to grow in place of the evaporated areas. Fraxel laser technology uses concentrated beams of laser light to reach deep into the skins innermost layers and stimulate the production of collagen. The increase in collagen production will yield more firm, supple skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. The treatment usually takes half an hour and leaves behind no visible markings and does not damage the skin. About an hour before the procedure is performed a topical anesthetics is applied liberally to the area to be treated this makes the process very comfortable for the patient. In the weeks following the treatment the outer layer of skin will begin to slough itself off revealing the beautiful new skin beneath it. Keeping your face highly moisturized during this time can help speed up the process and keep the new, delicate skin healthy and protected.

Benefits of Fraxel Treatments

Fraxel laser technology is the latest in a series of advancements to laser skin treatments. Fraxel laser technology has very rare side effects and the recovery time is much shorter than the recovery times resulting from other laser treatments. Individuals with sensitive skin may experience some tenderness right after the procedure, but most individuals will be able to go back to their normal routine and even wear makeup and glasses right after the treatment. Fraxel laser technology has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is a safe and controlled way to achieve beautiful, more youthful looking skin.
