Thrive Med Spa with offices in Chicago provides Fraxel treatments throughout the Chicagoland area from the downtown Loop to the Gold Coast and River North areas.
What is the Fraxel re:store laser treatment and what does it do?
The Fraxel re:store laser treatment is a revolutionary way to reverse the signs of aging and treat scars. This non-surgical procedure smoothes wrinkles and scars, improves texture, tone, elasticity, color and also minimizes pore size. The result is more youthful, radiant skin with minimal downtime. Any area of the body can be treated: face, chest, neck, hands! We have performed more than 3,000 Fraxel re:store laser treatments.
How is it different than other anti-aging treatments and how does it work?
Fraxel re:store is unlike any other rejuvenating skin treatment. Unlike old ablative lasers, which remove the top layer of skin, the Fraxel procedure affects the skin surface by producing thousands of tiny microscopic wounds that penetrate deep into the dermis. These “microthermal zones” are separated by areas of unaffected tissue. The spared tissue between treatment zones promotes rapid healing of the treated area while stimulating collagen production.
What other applications can Fraxel be used for?
Fraxel has been found to be effective in treating acne scars, surgical scars and traumatic scars.
How long does a treatment take and what will I look like afterward? When will I see results?
Treatments last between 10 to 80 minutes. Side effects are minimal and typically involve mild-to-moderate swelling and redness, which usually subside within several days. Skin may also flake and feel dry for several days. Routine activities can be resumed immediately after treatment. Most patients return to work within 1 to 3 days. Makeup may be worn the next day if desired. Many patients see improvement in tone and texture immediately followed by improvement in wrinkles and scars within months.
How many treatments are needed and how often can I be treated?
We recommend at least 3 treatments for optimal results. Four to six treatments may be needed for patients with significant scarring and wrinkles. Treatments are usually performed 4 to 6 weeks apart.
Will Fraxel re:store treat my brown spots and discolorations?
If discolorations (brown spots) are present we recommend adding 1 or 2 laser peels.
How can I maximize my results and maintain them?
Since your skin will continue to age naturally, we recommend maintaining your results by using physician-strength rejuvenation products at home and having periodic Fraxel treatments annually or semi-annually. Periodic Fraxel treatments will help slow down the aging process and keep your skin younger looking, longer. We recommend using DNA Ultimate Sol Protection SPF 25, which provides broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays with no chemical sun filters. It contains the FDA-approved physical blocker, Zinc Oxide to reflect light away from the skin. Apply 30 minutes before exposure and reapply often when exposed to the sun.
How should I prepare for my treatment?
During your pre-Fraxel consultation visit we will discuss which products are best to use prior to, during and after your treatment. botox may be recommended prior to Fraxel to relax facial movement in key areas (such as crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead creases) allowing for better laser penetration into deeper wrinkles. For 2 weeks prior avoid sun exposure and self tanner and wear an SPF 30 sunscreen daily.
Are there any side effects and risks?
Common temporary side effects include redness, swelling, dryness, fine flaking and itching. Significant risks are minimal and may include pigmentation changes, blistering and crusting. Scarring is extremely rare.
Can Fraxel re:store treatments be combined with other rejuvenation treatments?
Absolutely. Fraxel re:store is often combined with peels to treat acne, brown spots and discoloration. The Exilis Elite, which tightens and lifts skin with no downtime, is perfect in combination with Fraxel re:store to maximize your rejuvenation. The Cutera laser can be used to remove redness and blood vessels. Botox treatments can be combined with Fraxel to relax deep wrinkles. Juvederm can be injected into deep creases and lips
Add DNA Cryo Stem Cells immediately after your laser treatment to maximize your results.
Does Fraxel have FDA clearance?
Yes, the Fraxel laser is FDA cleared for the treatment of wrinkles, acne scars, age spots, sun damage, tone and texture improvement.
Your personalized Fraxel treatment plan
Your skin is unique, your genetic make-up, lifestyle and personal history all contribute to how your skin looks and feels. With Fraxel® treatment, your skin professional can develop a treatment plan tailored to your skin’s individual needs. By design, Fraxel® treatments can target between approximately 5 to 50 percent of the skin’s surface, leaving the remaining 50 to 95 percent available to quickly heal the treated areas. Since Fraxel® treatment is so precise, it is safe and effective on delicate skin areas like the neck, chest and hands, in addition to the face. You can expect two levels of results, immediate and progressive. Immediately after initial healing is complete, the surface of your skin will feel softer, look brighter, and tone will start to become even. Progressive results occur over the next three to six months as the deeper layers of skin continue to heal.
*Please note that Dr. Summers highly recommends a series of treatments for optimal results.
