What areas of the body can be treated?
Commonly treated areas include: upper lip, chin, beard, back of neck, underarms, areola, bikini, legs, arms, back and abdomen. Our laser systems allow us to treat the full body- no limits!
What does the treatment feel like?
For brown hair and light to medium skin types, is very comfortable and virtually painless. The PPx system is the most comfortable system on the market for removing unwanted hair. You will feel a gentle and warm sensation as your skin is drawn into the treatment tip. A very gentle light energy will be applied to the treatment area, immediately after which you will feel your skin being gently released back into normal position. Patients describe the sensation as being similar to that of a warm massage.
For darker skin types with black hair, it feels cool and soothes as it glides across the skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients briefly experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required. Some patients prefer a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.
I have dark skin, am I a candidate for laser hair removal?
Yes, it will not damage the color of the skin. Laser hair removal is completely safe for the darkest of skin types. In fact, due to the high melanin content within the hair follicle darker skin types will get above average results.
Will I need more than one treatment?
Typically, 6-10 treatments are needed to get excellent long-term results. However, the exact number of treatments varies from person to person and often varies between body parts being treated.
What is the treatment time?
A small area such as facial hair and underarms takes 15 minutes. More detailed areas such as the bikini take about 30 minutes. Large areas, such as a back or legs, can take 45 minutes or more depending on size.
What can I expect following the procedure? Can I return to my normal activities?
Yes, you can return to your normal activities or to work immediately following the procedure. There will be some perifollicular edema. This is due to the heat build-up in the hair follicle dispersing to the surrounding skin tissue. It will appear as a small, red bump at the skin level. This will start to subside within a few minutes up to a few hours depending on the sensitivity of the skin.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Laser hair removal is a simple procedure. Your certified laser specialist will apply a layer of cool gel or water to the area being treated. The hand piece is placed directly on the skin. You will feel a warm sensation and cold from the gel or hand piece. This is continued until the whole area has been treated. After the treatment, your skin will feel normal. The gel is removed and the procedure is finished. You can return to your normal activities.
What are the possible side effects of laser hair removal?
Slight reddening and local swelling may occur in some patients. In rare instances, a bruise may appear. This can be treated like any other bruise. It will continue to heal in the following 5-7 days.
Can I get rid of ingrown hairs?
Yes, laser hair removal works by penetrating into the skin where the ingrown is located. No more hair and no more scarring.
