Men and women alike experience the break down of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin causing facial lines and wrinkles. After many years of laughing, squinting, frowning and smoking the skin around the eyes, mouth and forehead will begin to develop expression lines. These lines can make you look older, tired and stressed. Up until recently these lines have been very hard to treat effectively. Now there is BOTOX Cosmetic, which minimizes the facial motion that is creating these wrinkles.
BOTOX is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause the frown lines between the brows to form over time. In 2005, almost 3.3 million procedures were performed with FDA-approved BOTOX® Cosmetic.
The greatest benefit to injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Restylane® is that the results are instant- you don’t have to wait weeks or months to see the dramatic effects!
How long does it last?
BOTOX Cosmetics will noticeably improve lines with 2-3 days and will last for four months. Some patients choose to regularly schedule BOTOX® injections every four months, while others chose to get BOTOX® treatments for special occasions once or twice a year.
What areas of the face and body do you use Botox?
The most common areas are the glabellar line (between the eyebrows), the forehead, and around the eyes. Not only does Botox® minimize the appearance of lines, it also lifts the eyebrows to open the eyes.
In approximately 1% of the population, the nerves are over-stimulated and sweat is produced far greater than needed to keep a constant temperature. This condition is referred to as Hyperhydrosis. Profuse sweating may be caused by warm weather, emotional stress, or for no reason at all.
BOTOX is the preferred treatment of Hyperhidrosis due to the fact that topical and oral medications, iontophoresis, and surgery have not proven to be efficacious in the majority of patients. Because the eccrine glands are innervated by sympathetic nerves that use acetylcholine as the neurotransmitter, BOTOX is effective in temporarily reducing or abolishing sweat production in treated areas.
Will Botox® make me loose expression?
No. The only expression you will use is the unintentional frown caused by the overactive muscle between your eyebrows. So, you can laugh, frown or looked surprised without the creases and wrinkles appearing.
