The Skin Institute at Thrive was created by Dr. Barry Summers in collaboration with his Medical Esthetic team, who saw a need for advanced esthetic knowledge and laser training for Estheticians, Cosmetologists, Nurses and Beauty Professionals.  Medical Spas are a booming industry and  Physicians are looking for trained Laser Specialists.

We use a combination of theory, hands-on and/or demonstrations for all of our medical esthetic and laser therapy courses. Our instructors are here to train you for your future position at a Physician owned Medical Spa, Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeons office. All Esthetics classes are approved by the Illinois State Licensing Board for CEU's.

5 Day Hands-on Cosmetic Laser Training

During these courses you will gain valuable insight and pearls on the "How To" of optimal success. Attendees will receive a course manual and a certificate showing Certification of Laser theory and Hands-on Training will be provided upon completion of the course.

Day 1: overview of skin conditions treated with lasers, the anatomy of skin and hair, laser physics, and types of lasers will be presented. The lecture will include Laser/IPL skin interaction, skin typing and analysis, as well as operational and treatment safety measures.

Day 2 (part I): discussion of contraindications, adverse events, benefits, client consultation, safety issues, expected results and medical terminology will be covered.

Day 2 (part II): will include clinical hands-on of Laser Hair Removal.

Day 3 (part I): clinical hands-on Laser Hair Removal

Day 3 (part II): clinical hands-on Photofacials

Day 4: clinical hands-on Light Therapy for Acne and Collagen Remodeling

Day 5 (part I): Acne Therapy Theory and clinical hands-on

Day 5 (part II): Fractional Laser theory and demonstration. Final Review of performance for Certification.

2 Day Advanced Esthetics Bootcamp (2 Day optional Shadowing Add-On)

This is the Skin Institute’s signature course.  We have a set curriculum designed to cover all the most demanded treatments in Medical Spas, Dermatology and Plastic Surgery offices.

Day 1: Introduction to Medical Spa Facilities, Responsibilities of working for a Physician, Advanced Microdermabrasion for Medical Settings, Chemical Peels (Superficial & Medium Depth), Dermaplaning

Day 2: Laser 101, Intensed Pulsed Light (IPL), Laser Hair Removal, Holistic Acne Concepts and Light Therapy, Collagen Remodeling, Final Review of Performance for certificate
