Vein Therapy
Sclerotherapy
An alternative to surgically removing ("stripping") veins, sclerotherapy is the new standard of treatment for both varicose and spider veins. The procedure involves injecting a special solution through a tiny needle into the vein, which then collapses and is absorbed by the body. Treatments involve one or more injections during one or more sessions, depending on the type, number and severity of the veins being treated. By the end of the treatment program, the veins are no longer visible on the skin surface. Sclerotherapy usually also relieves symptoms associated with enlarged veins and prevents further complications from occurring.
On average, one to three sessions are required, spaced one to two weeks apart. After each session, patients may have to wear bandages or support hose for a few days or weeks and are encouraged to walk or exercise to speed recovery. The procedure is office-based. Bruising and swelling (if present) should fade within a week or two. Sclerotherapy rarely produces more severe side effects such as scarring, although it cannot prevent the recurrence of vascular lesions.

Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy
Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy allows Dr. Summers to precisely treat problematic veins that aren't visible on the skin surface by monitoring veins on an ultrasound screen during the sclerotherapy procedure.

Laser Vein Therapy
If you suffer from broken capillaries, rosy cheeks, spider veins, or red freckles (cherry hemangiomas) laser treatments can provide safe and effective alternatives you have been looking for. Benign vascular lesions are overgrown enlarged blood vessels or multiple small vessels. Medical laser and intense pulsed light technology provide a non-invasive, no "down time" treatments for these benign skin conditions.
The vessels are treated by targeting the red blood cells and coagulating the vessel, making it no longer visible. The laser is safe and effective because of its unique ability to selectively treat the blood vessels of a vascular lesion without adversely affecting the surrounding tissue. Thus, it will eliminate many lesions while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.
