No single therapy is suitable for every double chin

Laser tightening and laser-assisted lipo options

At Thrive Med Spa and Wellness, our team, led by board-certified physician and anti-aging medicine authority Dr. Scott Sanderson, is excited to provide effective options to shrink a double chin to our friends and neighbors in Honolulu, Hawaii. Since we know that no single treatment may be proper for all patients with a double chin or submental fullness, we offer two treatment options:

  • Laser tightening with the advanced Endolift® system.
  • Laser-assisted liposuction with the revolutionary BeautiFill® device.

These therapies use energy from light-based devices to provide an in-office solution that achieves dramatic results without the risks and associated recovery and downtime of aggressive surgical procedures to sculpt contours and remove or alter excess fat or other tissues. Many offices treat the “double-chin” with Kybella, but Dr. Sanderson prefers these energy-based approaches because they are more effective than Kybella, which usually requires multiple treatments so they usually cost quite a bit less than Kybella as well. They also cause less swelling and pain than Kybella. The swelling after Kybella, can be significant and last for 1-2 weeks. The energy-based procedures also have the advantage of tightening skin, which Kybella does not do effectively.

What are the benefits of laser-assisted skin tightening and fat removal?

Generally, laser treatments to shrink or eliminate a double chin are:

  • Safe because tissue outside of the treatment areas is spared.
  • Efficient treatment sessions can be completed quickly.
  • Predictable for a range of different patients across a broad spectrum of skin types.
  • Associated with minimal risks of complications and side effects.
  • Little to no downtime, especially as compared to “traditional” techniques (such as Kybella).
  • Tolerated well with appropriate anesthesia.
  • “Instant gratification” – results are immediately visible without the wait.
  • Support lasting results.

How does Endolift® work?

Endolift® is an advanced laser technology. While it is appropriate to reshape both superficial and deeper layers of the skin on the body, for the face it is used for the chin area, as well as the jawline, neck, and under-eyes. The laser device cable is directed into the submental area safely and precisely. Energy generated by the Endolift® goes to work to trigger a process of collagen renewal and fat break down. Over the next 3 months, the body will break down and dispose of the damaged fat cells. As collagen is replenished deep within the skin, the area between the chin and neck is tightened. Lax tissue is sculpted, and the laser can selectively activate the safe destruction of fat cells. The entire procedure is minimally invasive; there is no cutting or downtime. While improvements can be seen immediately, they improve as time goes on and collagen is restored. The maximum improvement is usually seen around 3-4 months after the procedure.

What can I expect from BeautiFill®?

BeautiFill® is considered to be an alternative to traditional liposuction. It can also be used as a form of safe and natural “fat grafting,” with laser-assisted lipo removing fat cells from one area and transferring them to another location that has sustained volume loss and could use the boost or augmentation. The “laser” part comes into play when it is applied to break up the fat cells. This step makes it easier for us to suction out the fat gently and, as needed, prepare it for transfer to another part of the body if desired. Additionally, this efficient system tightens the skin in the treatment area by causing the formation of new collagen and the tightening of your old collagen. Once fat is removed, this feature helps to minimize the risk of sagging and laxity at the site.
